Corus Entertainment partners with Streamtheworld to bring CD quality sound to Corus Radio websites

(June 17, 2008 – Toronto, Canada) Corus Entertainment is proud to announce that it has partnered with StreamTheWorld to bring its 53 radio stations’ websites superior audio quality and online streaming through MPEG-4 Advanced Audio Coding (AAC). Already featured on Toronto’s edge.ca, Winnipeg’s groovefm.ca and Montreal’s ckoi.com and 940hits.com, all Corus Radio properties will soon use AAC to stream audio – the first Canadian radio broadcaster to feature this new streaming technology.

The MPEG-4 AAC system uses the same bandwidth as older streaming formats but when coupled with the installation of an Adobe Flash® player, it provides listeners with near-CD quality sound on their computers. Corus Radio stations will now be able to stream higher quality live audio content to PC, Mac and Linux platforms. AAC technology also works with BBM Portable People Meter (PPM) devices which will now allow Corus Radio stations to measure audience tuning online.

"Corus Radio is committed to serving our online listeners on the device of their choice through our partnership with StreamTheWorld, and now with the introduction of AAC technology, we’re thrilled to be able to provide an internet audio experience that approaches the fidelity of our FM broadcast quality," said David Huszar, General Manager of Splice Interactive Media, Corus Radio’s interactive division.

"Adobe Flash players are installed on 98% of the world’s online computers, that’s why we developed our technology assuring maximum reach, particularly for the at-work audience," said Yves Eric Laliberté, CEO, StreamTheWorld. "This significant enhancement of the user experience helps capture and retain listener loyalty, which in turn translates into longer listening times and increased ad revenue."

MPEG-4 AAC streaming will be completed by September 1, 2008 on all Corus radio websites.
