MySpace Canada partners with StreamTheWorld and Corus Entertainment to Launch MySpace Radio
MySpace Canada, the leading social portal in Canada, today announced a partnership with Corus Entertainment and StreamTheWorld to deliver a unique, live streaming service that allows users to discover, experience and listen to radio online. The new channel, MySpace Radio launched today and can be found at: www.myspace.com/radio.
Through the ground breaking partnership, Corus Entertainment will provide MySpace users real-time access to over 50 radios stations across the country. Canadian based StreamTheWorld will provide the technology backbone for MySpace Radio including an intuitive flash player that incorporates MySpace social networking features and allows users to integrate their favourite radio stations into their profiles.
“MySpace is the world’s largest music community; we know that the avenues of music discovery and distribution are constantly changing,” said Susan McGill, Executive Director, Sales, Marketing & Business Development, MySpace Canada. “By combining the power of Corus’ reach and radio content with StreamTheWorld’s market-leading live streaming solution, MySpace Radio is able to deliver a unique channel for users to connect with the music they love.”
“We welcome the ability to provide our radio station programming and personalities to the passionate music communities on MySpace,” said David Huszar, Vice President and General Manager, Corus Interactive and Integrated Solutions. “We are equally excited about the opportunities that this partnership will bring, beginning with the chance for great new music talent to be showcased on Alan Cross’ nationally syndicated radio program from ExploreMusic.com.”
“This combination of a leading social network with a pre-eminent Canadian radio brand supports the notion that the future of radio involves syndicating content beyond traditional radio to include digital partnerships,” said Neil Sweeney, Senior Vice President, North America, StreamTheWorld. “At StreamTheWorld we are ecstatic to be part of this very unique and progressive relationship.”
Initially, MySpace Radio will stream content from Corus Entertainment. Additional radio content will be added in the coming months.
“A significant percentage of online radio listeners have a MySpace profile,” continued McGill. “We wanted to deliver an integrated and seamless experience that allows users to friend, share, and incorporate their online radio listening experience with their MySpace activities.”
“Found On MySpace” User Contest
